DIY Quote Wall

Hey Guys!

I had printed some of my favourite quotes when I printed off other pictures to go in my bedroom, and I hadn't actually done anything with them. Therefore, as I also had a space on a wall, I decided that I was going to make a quote wall. All you need for this is some string or ribbon, some little pegs or clips and some quotes. Here is how to make a DIY quote wall...

Firstly you need to cut and arrange some string into the sizes that are suitable for your wall. I only had room for four rows that each held two pictures but that was enough for me, however more or less will still work. Once it has been arranged and placed to the wall in some form of way, place the pegs onto the string into the places where the photos will go and space them out evenly. I had room for eight photos overall, which included some of my favourite quotes.

Next, you need to start arranging the photos the way you want them. You could arrange them in colour, size or even shape I placed them first and started to change them round depending on how some looked next to eachother.

This is what my wall ended up looking like, where I used some of my favourite quotes. These included:

- 'Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy'
- 'There's no need to be perfect to inspire others. Let others be inspired by how you deal with your imperfections.'
- 'If you never know you'll never try.'
- 'The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday.'
- 'I will make better mistakes tomorrow.'
- 'Stop thinking and just let things happen.'
- 'Never Stop Believing.'
- 'It's time to start living.'

Hope you like this post and that it's easy for you to try. Let me know how it goes if you try it out. You could even change the quotes to pictures, or even words. Make it personalised and have some fun.

Scrapbooking

Hey Guys!

It's finally the summer holidays and for once it actually feels like summer too. The weather has been so different for the past week and has been so nice - it just feels like we definately should be on holiday. I have been meaning to start a scrapbook for the last few years but have never been bothered or had time to do one. So this year I decided that I would buy one and personalise it to hold all the bits I had been collecting over the years...

I bought a new scrapbook the other day from Hobbycraft for £6 as my old one was too small. It has gold and white stripes and says 'live, laugh, love' on it. I was quite pleased with it and will be able to fit quite a bit it in.

I then also was walking past the poundshop to see that they had a whole range of bits that are for arts, however looked quite good for scrapbooking. I picked up some small stick pearls, pegs on string, mini glitter envelopes and stick on silver letters. I thought they would be quite good to personalise my scrapbook and to make it more unique.

I try to fit lots of keepsakes and memories inside a scrapbook so that when I come back to it, I am able to remember everything I did by looking at birthday cards or photos. Over the years I have collected leaflets or photos, as well as birthday cards that can be cut up and used throughout the book.

Hopefully once I am finished or have started it I will be able to share with you the way I layout each page and how I personalise it. Have a great summer!

5 things to do when you're bored!

Hey Guys!

There's always those odd days or weeks when you've spent all your money or you just are bored out of your mind and have nothing else to do. I always have one of those days in the summer holidays and am always wanting to do something - but I never know what to do! So I have come up with 5 ideas of things you can do with either friends or on your own when you are bored.

1) Bake something
Get creative and make something you have never made before. Get out old recipe books and look through to see what you fancy. Maybe you could invite your friends round and you could bake multiple things and have a bake sale afterwards. This will pass time and before you know it, the day will have gone and you will end up with delicious food for you and your friends to try!

2) Have a photoshoot
Maybe you have a party coming up and you don't know what to wear? Try on different outfits and see what works best. Then maybe do your makeup and try different hairstyles too. Invite your friends so you can experiment on them and ask for their opinions too. You could also paint your nails and try out new designs for the future when you might do them again. After you look amazing, have a photoshoot and take some pictures that can be kept as memories.

3) Go shopping
Even if you don't have money, it can still be fun to window shop or try things on. Set aside a day where you can go shopping with friends or family and go wherever you want. Maybe there are clothes you want to try on or a wishlist you want to make for your birthday. I love window shopping myself and just browsing around the shops when I have no money, and it still takes up my day and keeps me interested.

4) Sort out your room
You know when you've left your room for too long and it ends up looking really messy and in need of a clean, it's time for a sort out. Invite your friends to help you clean out your cupboards of clothes and other items and sort out whether it can go to charity or whether it isn't reusable. Play some music and clean your room so it is nice and tidy and can help you feel like you have accomplished something.

5) Go on an adventure
Lastly, there is nothing more than just going out and seeing where the day takes you. You might have something planned or a place you want to go to, or you might just go for a wander and end up somewhere you didn't realise was even there. Take a picnic on a nice day and go for a long walk and explore. Take your camera and take some nice pictures, and just see where you end up...

Hope these 5 options are helpful - I'm certainly going to try being more imaginative and trying new things to do!

Millionaires' Shortbread

Hey Guys!

I don't know whether you know but recently Tanya Burr bought out a recipe book, which I had pre-ordered a signed edition of. It has some amazing recipes in it which I can't wait to try out as they all look so good! However when I got it, I hadn't got many ingredients in the house, but I did have what I needed for this recipe. They didn't necessarily turn out as good as hers, but they definately still tasted really good! I did change the recipe a little, however here is the recipe I used.

For this recipe you will need:
  • A 20cm square baking tin,
  • 175g cold butter,
  • 250g plain flour,
  • 75g caster sugar,
  • 397g tin of caramel,
  • 300g chocolate,
  • Edible glitter (optional).

1) Preheat the oven to 180 degrees or Gas Mark 4.

2) To make the shortbread, rub the butter, flour and sugar together until it forms a breadcrumb consistency. Then knead the mixture so that it all comes together as a mixture. This then needs to be pressed tightly in the tin at the bottom and baked for 20 minutes or until golden. Once out of the oven, it needs to cool completely.

3) Once the shortbread is cool, you can pour the caramel over the shortbread and spread it out evenly. The recipe said to make the caramel however I didn't have much time and did have this. If you were to make it, it would set better and wouldn't be all gooey, however either taste great. Leave it in the fridge to set and to cool.

4) Melt the chocolate all in a bowl over a pan of simmering water, but make sure the bowl doesn't touch the water. Mix until it has all melted and it is ready to pour. (I had to mix some chocolates as I didn't have a bar, but it still worked!) Once it has melted and the caramel is cool, pour it over the caramel and shortbread. If you have some edible glitter, put some on top for added effect however it doesn't matter if you don't. Place in the fridge until it is completely cool and has set.

5) Lastly, cut into pieces the size of your choice. I made mine smaller so therefore made more, but it is up to you. They are quite sickly which is why I cut them smaller but it doesn't matter. Leave in the fridge so that they don't melt either!

Mine definately don't look as good as Tanya's, however they tasted really good and have lasted a really long time as I made so many. Let me know if you try them yourself!
